As an ecommerce copywriter, I’ve met my fair share of frazzled business owners.
They have a digital startup that’s not quite seeing the growth and revenue they expected, so they come to me expecting a copywriting miracle.
Don’t get me wrong – the right sales copy can have a miraculous effect on conversation rates, but these struggling entrepreneurs are putting the cart before the horse! They’re jumping into marketing without first establishing a clear business strategy.
You may have a groundbreaking idea or product, but without a proven strategy to market it effectively, you’re losing sales – and your valuable, non-refundable time.
That’s where this ecommerce course comes in. It provides a step-by-step plan to grow your digital venture with a proven, structured business model.
But before we get into the course itself, I think it’s important to know who wrote the thing.
With that said, let me introduce you to Matt Edmundson.
Who Is Matt Edmundson?
As the CEO of several ecommerce businesses (including Jersey Beauty Company), Matt has turned over $50 million in sales. Before his remarkable success though, he was just a budding entrepreneur working out of his bedroom.
His first online venture was in early 2002. Edmundson was intrigued by ecommerce and the opportunity it provided, especially the whole “make money while you sleep” thing. After a little research, he found a product to sell online, coded his first website and shortly after sold it for a decent profit.
Since that point over a decade ago, he has sold and shipped over 6 million products across the world. More of the “hands on” type, Matt was involved in every stage of growth from packing and shipping to marketing and customer service.
So basically, Matt Edmundson isn’t some wanna-be marketing guru. He’s a “been there, done that, here’s what works” kind of guy.
Who Is the Course For?
Judging by its content and in-depth nature, I’d say Matt Edmundson’s Ecommerce Mastery course isn’t for everyone. For some people, their digital business is simply a hobby or labor of love. If that’s the case for you, I’d pass on this course.
However, if you’re serious about taking your ecommerce business to the next level, it just might be a good fit.
The course is built for those of you willing to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Growth-driven ecommerce requires you to think outside the box, and sometimes that means making critical changes.
Change is scary for many people, but what’s that old saying?
“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
I may have butchered that quote, but you get what I’m saying.
If you want to find new customers, increase sales and boost the overall impact of your business, this course will show you how to do it, but you’ll have to be flexible.
How Does the Ecommerce Mastery Course Work?
The course is in video format, which may be a pro or con depending on how you learn best. Here’s what each video lesson looks like:
Are you a visual learner? Do you operate best when someone walks through each phase of a project step-by-step? I don’t know about you, but I practically need someone to hold my hand and show me the ropes one-on-one. That’s basically what this course does.
If you’re more of the “read and study written materials” type of person, this format may not suit your needs.
The Ecommerce Mastery course is designed to learn at your own pace. There are no deadlines to make and no live classes to work into your schedule. The entire course is broken down into sections or “modules” as Matt calls them. This layout makes an intimidating topic a lot easier to digest.
Here’s a quick peek into how it’s organized:
How Long Does It Take?
Short answer? As long or as short as you want it to. Since you move at your own pace, there really is no set timeframe. However, the course includes 5 modules, each containing about 120 minutes worth of video footage.
Matt also gives you a 1-page ecommerce strategy at the very beginning, so you can get the ball rolling immediately.
What You’ll Learn in Matt Edmundson’s Mastery Course
If I had to sum it up in a single sentence, I’d say this – you’ll learn how to grow your ecommerce business exponentially with a proven strategy that supports long-term success.
That’s the short answer. Here’s the long one:
He’ll teach you the underlying principles that are directly connected to over $50m in revenue. He also digs a little deeper into the methodology he personally used to ship over 6 million products worldwide.
The most important things you’ll learn in Ecommerce Mastery are represented in its 5 main modules: Strategy, Build, Attract, Engage and Enable.
This section will help you answer questions like
- Where is my business currently?
- Where is it going?
- How do I want my digital storefront (website) to look?
The first step in any ecommerce business is to lay a steady foundation – one that’s strong enough to sustain long-term growth. That foundation comes in the form of your strategy, which Matt will help you put into place.
Your website is where everything happens. It’s literally where your business resides. That’s why there’s an entire module dedicated to building and maintaining a successful website.
This section is one of my favorites. You can save thousands of dollars by not hiring a web designer and doing it all yourself. He also gives you the insider scoop behind what tech you actually need and what you can pass on.
No matter what niche you’re in, there’s 1 question that all ecommerce companies share:
“How do I get traffic to my site??”
This section answers that question and many others associated with digital marketing – what works, what doesn’t, where to save your money, where to spend it, etc.
Once you’ve implemented the steps in the previous section, your site will have plenty of visitors. The question then becomes – now what?
That’s what the “Engage” module is all about. The next step after traffic is engagement. Learning tried-and-true ways to engage your customers is the quickest way to increase sales.
Engaging customers includes looking at personas, the buyer’s journey, your website’s layout, your call-to-action copy, ease of checkout and more.
This module covers all the other aspects of running an ecommerce business.
- Customer service
- Order fulfillment
- And more
He also talks about how to wow your customer once your product is in their hands (or on their computer if you sell a digital product).
Do I Recommend It?
This is a hard one to answer because everyone learns differently.
However, IF you thrive off step-by-step instructions AND you’re truly ready to grow your online business (aka it’s not just a hobby), then I highly recommend Matt Edmundson’s Ecommerce Mastery Course.
As an ecommerce copywriter, I dare say I’ve seen it all when it comes to cut corners by business owners with good intentions. But you simply can’t skip to marketing without first laying the groundwork for success – your business plan.
Running an ecommerce business is a lot like learning math: In order to be successful, you have to start with the basics, allowing each step to build upon the previous one. Not many ecommerce marketing legends take their time to show others how it all works.
Matt does – and he does it well.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
